For the holiday season, Metro Manila cops would ‘work close to home.’

For the holiday season, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) will allow police personnel to be stationed near residents’ homes.

NCRPO commander Maj. Gen. Vicente Danao Jr. said in a statement on Friday that this is in accordance with PNP chief Gen. Dionardo Carlos’ vow to allow police officers to spend more time with their family over the holidays by working at the nearest police station from their houses.

“Regardless of what our CPNP (Philippine National Police chief) says about it, rest assured that we will support and make it happen without jeopardizing our mission to keep Metro Manila safe and secure during the Christmas season and other holidays ahead,” Danao added.

Carlos has already authorized the Directorate of Personnel and Records Management to devise a strategy for implementing the measure efficiently.

During the period of then-PNP head and now-Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, the work-near-home policy for police personnel was implemented to increase officer morale and put a stop to the tragic scene of their children waiting in vain for their parents to return home on Christmas Eve.

“This is something I’ve personally experienced. And I’ve accepted it as a way of life that only uniformed servicemen can comprehend. I appreciate my children’s sympathies, but it would be much better if I had the opportunity to come home to them on Christmas Eve, as other fathers do. This is what I wanted my soldiers to go through and what I wanted them to accomplish “Danao remarked.

On Thursday, Danao led the mass oathtaking and rank donning of 2,522 newly promoted police officers at the NCRPO headquarters in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City.

A total of 221 police commissioned officers (PCOs) and 2,301 police non-commissioned officers (PNCOs) were selected for the Second Level Regular Promotion Program for Calendar Year 2021 after passing the stringent screening and deliberation of uniformed personnel.

There are 498 police personnel promoted from Regional Headquarters, consisting of 37 PCOs and 461 PNCOs; 342 from the Northern Police District, consisting of 38 PCOs and 304 PNCOs; 268 from the Eastern Police District, consisting of 23 PCOs and 245 PNCOs; Manila Police District, consisting of 496 and 42 PCOs and 454 PNCOs; Southern Police District, consisting of 40 PCOs and 454 PNCOs;

Danao also urged the recently promoted NCRPO officers to keep in mind that every promotion comes with increased responsibility, as well as the inspiration and incentive to better serve the people.

He also instructed and directed the PCOs to closely supervise and direct all workers on the ground to ensure that they followed the rules. Danao also told the PNCOs that they needed to stay focused on their jobs.
