Negros Occidental officials are grieving the death of former provincial board member David Lacson, who died in 2019 after a struggle with coronavirus sickness (Covid-19).

In a statement released Monday, Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson noted that the abrupt death of Lacson last week came as a shock to everyone.

“We get this unfortunate news just when the number of Covid-19 cases is declining. “This serves as a reminder to all of us to remain alert in our efforts to protect ourselves from Covid-19,” he added.

Lacson, 46, was a member of the Third District’s board of directors from 2016 to 2019.

Prior to that, he served as mayor of E.B. Magalona for three terms, from 2007 to 2016.

In the May 2019 elections, he attempted to reclaim the mayorship but was defeated by incumbent mayor Marvin Malacon.

“David was a good public servant who was well-liked by a large number of people. “His generous spirit will be sorely missed,” the governor stated.

As of Sunday, Negros Occidental had just 392 active Covid-19 cases, far less than the over 2,000 instances seen at the end of November.

According to a report by the Provincial Incident Management Team, Negros Occidental had 34,724 confirmed cases from March 27, 2020 to December 5, 2021, with 32,625 recoveries and 1,707 deaths.
