On Tuesday, the House of Representatives passed a resolution calling for the safe resumption of school sports practices and contests.

During the plenary session, the chamber passed House Resolution 2275, which urges the Inter-agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases, the Department of Health, the Commission on Higher Education, and the Department of Education to allow the resumption of school sports training activities and competitions so that student-athletes who could potentially bring honor and award to the country in the future can continue to improve their skills under the supervision of a qualified coach.

The Covid-19 restrictions, according to the resolution, have significantly interrupted all sorts of physical activity and sports training programs for student-athletes in the Philippines.

“It is critical for the country’s young athletes to be allowed to train in appropriate settings so that they can stay physically fit and perform effectively while adhering to health protocols and other safety considerations,” the resolution stated.

Inoculating student-athletes is a key step in preventing the spread of Covid-19 and limiting disruptions to learning and sporting activities, according to the resolution.

Health and safety protocols and other instructions for the return of school sports training, competitions, and collegiate athletic leagues shall include the following, according to the resolution: Pre-entry preparations, pre-event and intra-event testing procedures, billeting health protocols, training venue health protocols, retrofitting of sporting facilities and communal areas, and management of symptomatic or suspected individuals are all covered by the Covid-19 immunization.

The decision said that sports training and contests may resume in a bubble-type environment.
