There are no new Covid-19 instances in two Makati hospitals.

The municipal government claimed on Wednesday that the Ospital ng Makati (OsMak) and the Makati Medical Center (MMC) have documented “zero” new cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in the last two weeks.

Mayor Abigail Binay said in a statement that despite extensive testing measures, the city-run OsMak has not reported any new Covid-19 cases since November 24.

“At OsMak, we had 54 patients with Covid-like symptoms earlier this month.” Fortunately, RT-PCR (reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction) tests revealed that they were all negative. As a result, we have no Covid cases at OsMak,” she said, noting that the last Covid-19 patient admitted to the hospital on Nov. 24 was a 75-year-old local.

The patient had serious symptoms and died on December 3 of last year.

MMC’s medical director, Dr. Saturnino Javier, previously issued a press release reporting the hospital’s first zero-Covid-19 patient census in 20 months, since March 2020.

According to the Makati Health Department’s most recent report, Makati is currently classified as low-risk, with 31 ongoing cases, zero deaths, and one recovery (MHD).

The city’s high vaccination coverage, availability of quick antigen tests and RT-PCR tests, surveillance, and early isolation or quarantine of suspected Covid-19 patients, according to Binay, contributed to the low number of active cases.

She went on to say that this is due to the tight enforcement of minimal public health standards.

Meanwhile, Binay warned the public not to relax because the Omicron coronavirus variety continues to represent a threat.

“Even though we are now classified as low-risk, we must stay watchful.” It’s only a matter of time before the Omicron model arrives in the United States. “We must continue to adhere to public health guidelines such as wearing face masks and maintaining a one-meter separation from other people,” she said.

The city administration has vaccinated 439,185 people so far, accounting for more over 70% of the city’s entire population of 624,560.

Binay stated that the Bakuna Makati campaign is being accelerated in collaboration with the corporate sector in order to reduce the number of current cases.
