More than 400 barangays have been cleaned of illegal drugs, according to the PDEA.

More than 400 barangays have been cleaned of illicit drugs in the previous two months as part of the Duterte administration’s aggressive anti-illegal drug operation.

According to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency’s (PDEA) latest Real Numbers statistics issued on Thursday, the number of barangays certified drug-free as of October 31 was 23,270, up 412 from the 22,858 reported as of August 31 this year.

There are still 12,125 barangays that haven’t been cleaned of illegal substances.

Before declaring a barangay free of illegal drug activities, PDEA spokesperson Derrick Carreon said the Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs (ICAD) must validate the absence of drug supply, drug transit activity, clandestine drug laboratory and chemical warehouse, marijuana cultivation site, drug den, drug pushers and users in the area.

The activation of Barangay Drug Abuse Councils (BADACs), according to him, is also critical to the campaign’s success.

PDEA held training-orientation sessions for local government units (LGUs) all over the country on metrics and indicators for certifying drug-cleared barangays in collaboration with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

Since the Duterte administration initiated its vast anti-illegal drug campaign on July 1, 2016, a total of 13,821 high-value targets (HVTs) have been arrested around the country.

6,061 HVTs, 3,785 target-listed suspects, 1,422 drug den maintainers, 795 drug gang leaders/members, 509 government employees, 393 elected officials, 349 foreigners, 284 on wanted lists, 124 uniformed people, 75 armed group members, and 24 famous persons are included in the figure.

During the same time period, authorities detained 315,635 people who were involved in illegal drug trafficking.

As of October 31, the combined records showed that 6,215 drug suspects had perished in 218,665 anti-illegal drug operations.

Authorities also arrested 4,033 children between July 2016 and October 2021. There are 2,377 pushers, 963 possessors, 434 users, 229 drug den visitors, nine drug den maintainers, 16 drug den employees, two cultivators, one clan lab employee, and two runners in this group.

The rescued kids would be turned over to local government units’ Bahay Pag-asa centers within eight hours after being taken into custody by the police, according to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

The DSWD stated that because they are juveniles, they will not be held in the same prison as severe criminals.
