Germany sends additional 1M Moderna vax dosages to PH

The German government contributed 1,062,100 doses of the Moderna Covid-19 vaccination through the COVAX Facility on Sunday afternoon.

Later, at around 10:15 p.m., another 535,300 doses will be supplied through Singapore Airlines, bringing the total number of donated doses to 1,597,400, while private-sector procured AstraZeneca shots will arrive at 7:30 p.m.

“We have another example today of how important vaccination is,” German Embassy Economic Counsellor George Maue said in an interview. “I believe the Philippines is on a very good track with its vaccination program, and Germany is very happy to support the Philippines for its fantastic vaccination program.”

Rosario Lemque, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs Office of European Affairs, commended Germany and all of the country’s other European allies for continuing to donate Covid-19 vaccines.

Since March, the national government has delivered approximately 100 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, with at least 43 million people having been fully vaccinated as of December 16.

Unicef Nutrition Manager Alice Nkoroi said, “Unicef (United Nations Children’s Fund) is extremely glad to be joining and helping the DOH (Department of Health) in terms of the purchase and delivery of vaccinations through the COVAX Facility, which allows access to vaccines for all.”

On Friday, the Philippines received 1,020,500 doses of Moderna vaccine from the German government, as part of a total donation pledged by European Union countries of roughly 9.9 million euros this year.
