Only six sections of the NCR are still under granular lockdown.

Only six regions in the National Capital Region are now under granular lockdown, according to Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año, as the country continues to witness a drop in coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections.

Año told President Rodrigo Duterte during his Talk to the People briefing that Metro Manila has the fewest number of regions under granular lockdown, totaling 605.

“Sa atin naman pong updates sa ating buong bansa sa pagko-conduct ng ating granular lockdown, makikita po na higit 126,600 po ang ating mga aktibong kaso sa ngayon sa buong bansa,” said the source. Subalit makikita natin sa ating alert level system, 26 cities and municipalities ang apektado o kabuuan ay 210 barangays at 605 lamang ang granular lockdown at ang anim dito ay nasa National Capital Region nakakaaapekto sa 744 households or 1,233 individuals (In our updates throughout the country regarding the conduct of our However, according to our alert level system, only 26 cities and municipalities, or a total of 210 barangays, are affected, and only 605 are under granular lockdown, with six in the National Capital Region affecting 744 houses or 1,233 people),” Año said.

The Department of Health (DOH) announced last week that Metro Manila is now classified as “moderate risk” for Covid-19, down from a high-risk case designation.

Meanwhile, with 384 places under granular lockdown, the Cordillera Administrative Region still has the most, followed by the Ilocos Region with 132, Cagayan Valley with 77, and Mimaropa with nine.

“Sabi nga po magandang balita ngayon sapagkat tuluy-tuloy naman ang pagbaba ng ating mga kaso pero asahan po natin na aagapan pa rin natin kung magkakaroon po ng mga transmission sa mga komunidad (it is wonderful news because our cases continue to decline, but we hope that

Local government units (LGUs), according to Año, have been advised to prepare for the third edition of the ‘Bayanihan, Bakunahan’ on February 10 and 11.

During these days, he said, the government plans to vaccinate 6 million people against Covid-19, with 2 million receiving initial doses and 4 million receiving booster shots.

Walk-ins are allowed in vaccination centers, according to Año, in order to vaccinate more people.

“Pumunta ka lamang sa pinakamalapit na immunization site at ikaw ay babakunahan at bibigyan ng booster,” says the doctor (shot). At nakahanda rin po ang ating mga unipormadong hanay upang tulungan ang ating LGUs (local government units) na dalhin ang mga bakuna sa malalayong lugar o hakutin ang ating mga kababayan at dalhin sa vaccination sites Our military personnel are ready to assist local governments in providing vaccines to remote locations or ferrying our compatriots to vaccination sites),” Año stated.

‘Odette’s’ retort

During the same press conference, Año said that PHP4.85 billion had been set aside for the 27 provinces in six regions hit by Typhoon Odette.

He noted that weak signal and power disruptions, as well as the increased number of Covid-19 cases in the impacted areas, particularly in the Visayas and Mindanao, made it difficult to offer help to the afflicted LGUs.

Despite the difficult circumstances, Año stated that local chief executives reported distributing PHP495.5 million in financial aid.

Governors Arthur Defensor Jr. of Iloilo, Arthur Yap of Bohol, Gwendolyn Garcia of Cebu, Damian Mercado of Southern Leyte, Francisco Matugas of Surigao del Norte, and Arlene Bag-ao of the Dinagat Islands were also recognized for completing their respective aid distribution reports to the DILG on time.

Show-cause orders will be issued against LGUs who fail to give cash relief to their residents who are still suffering from the effects of Typhoon Odette on time, according to Año.
