TESDA plans to add two new farming-related courses and encourages farmers to sign up.

Secretary Isidro Lapea is asking farmers to take advantage of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority’s (TESDA) free training in two courses customized for the Rice Extension Services Program, which were added this year (RESP).

Lapeña told the Philippine News Agency on Tuesday that TESDA has been delivering six RESP courses, and that Pest and Nutrient Management, as well as a Digital Agricultural Course, will be available soon.

“These are the areas that contribute to the farmers’ productivity and income, according to the baseline survey (TESDA) done in 2020. However, their understanding of pest and nutrient management, as well as other new agricultural expertise, remains limited “he stated

Last year, TESDA authorized 52,421 RESP scholarship seats, according to Lapeña. Farmers Field School (FFS) on High-Quality Inbred Rice Production, Seed Certification, and Farm Mechanization; Agro-Entrepreneurship NC (national certificate) II, III, IV; Rice Machinery Operations NC II; Drying and Milling Plant Servicing NC III; Agro-Entrepreneurship NC (national certificate) II, III, IV; Agro-Entrepreneurship NC (national certificate) II, III, IV; Rice Machinery Operations NC II; Rice Machinery

He explained that providing the additional courses is TESDA’s response to the baseline study and another approach to assist rice growers.

For the year 2022, TESDA plans to release 50,000 scholarship places for RESP courses.

“I encourage all of our rice farmers who are registered with the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture to take advantage of the RESP’s several free courses. Not only will this free training upskill them, but it will also help them enhance their yield and income when they apply their newly gained abilities to their agricultural methods “Lapeña stated.

TESDA said on Monday that over 38,000 rice farmers and their families have completed the RESP training.

According to TESDA’s records, 26,898 people have completed FFS on Production of High-Quality Inbred Rice and Seed Certification, as well as Farm Mechanization; 4,008 people have completed FFS on Service Motorcycle/ Small Engine System; 3,628 people have completed Rice Machinery Operations NC II; 511 people have completed Agro-Entrepreneurship NC II, and 24 people have completed Drying and Milling Plant Servicing NC III.

According to TESDA, each scholar was entitled to a PHP160 daily allowance as well as free training and assessment, including entrepreneurial instruction and insurance.

“Teach skills on rice crop production, contemporary rice farming practices, seed production, farm mechanization, and knowledge/technology transfer through farm schools nationally,” according to the RESP cluster.
