The Department of Tourism (DOT) has encouraged travelers to utilize facilities and establishments with the government-issued Safety Seal certificate as the Philippines gradually resumes travel activities with the lifting of mobility restrictions.

“Hinihikayat po natin ang ating mga consumers (We encourage our consumers), especially those who will be traveling during peak travel months, such as summer, we have to patronize facilities and establishments that have a Safety Seal in addition to the DOT accreditation to assure them that they’ll be in safe hands, that they’ll be enjoying a safe vacation or a better service for them,” DOT director for tourism standards and regulation Virgilio Maguigad said.

The safety seal program is a voluntary program that certifies that an institution complies with the government’s minimal public health criteria and employs or integrates StaySafe.ph’s contact tracing.

Since the program’s inception, 1,612 DOT-accredited tourism businesses have applied for accreditation.

At least 1,582 seals have previously been issued, and 30 applications are now being evaluated or processed.

Metro Manila, Western Visayas, and Region 4-A (Calabarzon) have the most seals released, with 264, 168, and 161, respectively, according to Maguigad.

According to the official, this is also significant for tourism establishments because it acts as a “badge” demonstrating rigorous adherence to basic health and safety standards.

He continued, “This Safety Seal program is one method to encourage our tourists and convince them that they would be traveling in safe areas.”

The seal is valid for six months from the date of issue, except for tourism businesses, which have a one-year validity period.
