At the commencement of the PH reopening to foreign travelers, BI saw 7K arrivals.

The Philippines reopened its doors to foreign travelers on Thursday, and the Bureau of Immigration (BI) expects a 30 percent increase in passenger arrivals.

Lawyer Carlos Capulong, the chief of the BI port operations division (POD), said they expect 7,000 passengers to arrive, up from 4,816 on Wednesday.

He expects the majority of them to be Filipinos, with about 27% being foreign nationals.

Commissioner Jaime Morente, on the other hand, predicted that in the coming months, the number of visitors will rise to 10,000-12,000 every day.

“Let’s hope everything goes smoothly as we adjust to the new normal.” We regard this as the beginning of the tourism industry’s revival, which we hope will regain the strength it had in prior years,” he added in a statement.

Families, loved ones, and partners of Filipinos are expected to be among those who come in the initial wave of immigration, according to the BI head.

“Many unmarried couples and families have long advocated for our borders to be reopened so that they might be reunited with their loved ones.” We anticipate that some of the first people to arrive will be individuals who want to be with their family,” he added.

The agency had previously indicated that the country would be open to international visitors beginning February 10.

Foreign nationals who have been fully vaccinated may be allowed entrance if they produce the requisite documents, as determined by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF).

The BI commissioner has directed port employees to maintain vigilance and ensure that only qualified immigrants are admitted.
