PRRD will spend the holidays visiting villages affected by the ‘Odette’ disaster.

President Rodrigo R. Duterte announced on Thursday that he will spend the holidays trying to guarantee that communities hit by Typhoon Odette receive the help they require.

“Even if it’s Christmas, magta-trabaho pa rin ako at marami akong pupuntahan yung mga lugar na gutom yung tao, may sakit na, at hindi nakain (Even if it’s Christmas, I’m going to work and I’m going to visit a lot of locations where people are hungry and sick),” he stated in

In a moment of crisis, Duterte declared the government would work “overtime,” emphasizing that it was the least he could do to help his fellow Filipinos.

“Ang gobyerno na maski na Pasko hindi magsara.” Sobra-sobra na, sabi ko magsakripisyo na tayo total marami nang Pasko sa buhay natin. Itong Pasko na ito, ibigay natin sa tao; ‘Yun lang naman ang maibigay ko sa personal.’ Because we had spent so many Christmases in our lives, I suggested that we make a sacrifice. Let us give back to the people this Christmas. That’s the only thing I can personally give),” he remarked.

Apart from offering support, Duterte stated that he also wished to provide hope in these trying times.

He went on to say, “I’m here to give you hope.”

He promised that the military and police would be sent to keep the calm in typhoon-ravaged provinces, despite allegations of theft prompted by a lack of food and other basic goods.

“So ta-trabaho kami,” says the narrator. Pati ang pulis, pati ang military. Stay put, sila, since wala masyadong gulo namang. We shall work in accordance with our discipline and mabigyan lahat (We will work in accordance with our discipline and mabigyan lahat). Even the military and law enforcement. To avoid difficulties, they’ll stay put. So there’d be discipline and everyone would get help),” he explained.

Duterte also stated that he has raised PHP10 billion for disaster relief.

“Naka-raise ako ng PHP10 billion para ‘yung ibigay sa tao,” says the entrepreneur (I have raised PHP10 billion for the people). It does not contain everything, but it does contain ito… It’s not the same as getting help from a government agency. This is merely to ensure that funds are provided to communities in order for them to recover),” he explained.

He apologized once more for the delays in relief distribution, adding that paperwork takes time and money are running low.

“To be honest, we’re having a hard time here in itaas since there are so many places strewn around at malalayo (and they’re far),” he remarked.

Meanwhile, he revealed that he would travel to Cebu to meet with security troops for a command conference.

“Pupunta ako ng Cebu, doon ako mag meeting,” says the narrator. I’m heading to Cebu to hold a meeting. Pinatawag ko yung mga pinaka malaki sa militar pati pulis, magbigay ako ng instructions. I summoned top military and police officers to give them orders),” he added.

Duterte has already paid visits to Maasin, Leyte; Inabanga, Bohol; Argao, Cebu; and Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, Siargao Island, and Dinagat Island to meet local leaders and personally distribute relief aid to individuals displaced by the hurricane.
