Binondo-Intramuros Bridge is a bridge that connects Binondo and Intramuros. The project is 92 percent complete, and it will be ready to open soon.

The PHP3.39 billion Binondo-Intramuros Bridge Project is already 92 percent complete, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

The project, according to DPWH Acting Secretary Roger Mercado, is the department’s next major infrastructure project, the Unified Project Management Office (UPMO) Operations, which will be completed soon.

The works are developing smoothly, according to DPWH Undersecretary for UPMO Operations Emil Sadain, and the project is on target to open around Holy Week this year.

“With a 92 percent completion rate, we’re rushing to complete the soon-to-be one of Manila’s newest icons, with its signature basket-handle linked steel arch.” “We are hoping for continued good weather,” said Sadain, who is the chief implementer of flagship infrastructure projects under the “Build, Build, Build” program. “By March, the contractor will begin the final retouching of the steel arch bridge and asphalt will be laid on the concrete slab, so we are hoping for continued good weather,” said Sadain, who is the chief implementer of flagship infrastructure projects under the “Build, Build, Build” program.

During the inspection on Thursday with Project Director Benjamin A. Bautista and Project Manager Melchor Kabiling of DPWH UPMO Roads Management Cluster 1, Sadain reminded the contractor, China Road, and Bridge Corporation, of the project’s target opening.

The completion of the up and down ramps at Binondo and Intramuros is one of the projects underway. The up-ramps are placed on Muelle dela Industria Street, and the down-ramps are located on Rentas Street and Plaza del Conde Street on the Binondo side.

The construction of ramps on the Intramuros side, including an up-ramp at Riverside Drive and a down-ramp at Solana Street, is also proceeding.

“The girders of the ramps, like the steel arch main bridge, are made of manufactured steel members done globally in Shanghai and delivered in the Philippines in multiple delayed shipments due to the epidemic,” Sadain stated.

The initiative is supported by a grant from the People’s Republic of China’s government.

The DPWH UPMO finished the new Estrella – Pantaleon Bridge, which is part of the Metro Manila Logistics Network and connects the cities of Mandaluyong and Makati, in 2021 under similar funding.

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s administration’s traffic decongestion initiative is supported by this project.
