ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — The Zamboanga Peninsula Department of Health (DOH-9) plans to vaccinate 500,000 children aged five to eleven years old in the region against the coronavirus disease in 2019. (Covid-19).

The declaration was made by Dr. Joshua Brillantes, director of the DOH–9, on Monday, when the immunization campaign for children aged five to eleven began in the region.

Children are being vaccinated in collaboration with the Department of Education, according to Brillantes (DepEd).

Brillantes asked parents to have their children immunize their children in preparation for the upcoming face-to-face lessons.

“We won’t be able to escape it.” Some people are still concerned because they’ve seen some adults have negative reactions to vaccinations,” he said.

The immunization of youngsters in this city began in the Zamboanga Central School.

In this city, 15 vaccination centers have been opened, according to Dr. Rosalio Conturno Jr., the city schools’ division education supervisor for school governance and operations.

On the first day of the vaccine campaign, the city government hopes to vaccinate 3,000 youngsters aged five to eleven.

“Now we have the option to safeguard our children (against Covid-19),” stated city health official Dr. Dulce Amor Miravite.

For children in this age group, a reformulated Pfizer vaccination was administered to prevent them from severe Covid-19 symptoms.
