DAGUPAN CITY, PHILIPPINES — The city authorities in this city began immunizing youngsters aged five to eleven against the coronavirus sickness on Monday (Covid-19).

Dr. John Fernandez, a critical care expert and vice president of the Philippine Pediatric Society-Northern Luzon Chapter, said the initiative to immunize this age group is totally supported by his organization.

Fears of acquiring fever, nausea, or weakness are common reactions among patients who are getting vaccinated with different vaccines),” he said in an interview on Tuesday.

Fernandez’s lone kid, who is eight years old, was among those who received vaccinations.

“Since January, we’ve seen youngsters who have suffered from the terrible consequences of Covid-19. We’re particularly concerned about the multi-system inflammatory syndrome in children who had Covid-19 but were only mildly affected. They may, however, develop the condition in a couple of weeks. As a result, we ask parents to have their children immunized,” he explained.

Dr. Arianne Calimlim Samson of Region 1 Medical Center’s Infectious Disease Department and a member of the Philippine Pediatric Society’s Northern Luzon Chapter urged other parents to have their children vaccinated.

“I was a mother of a three-year-old before becoming a doctor.” “If given the option to bring my child-like today’s opportunity, I would be first in line,” she said.

Dr. Charisse Tanlatco, an ophthalmologist, stated that she chose to vaccinate her son for two reasons.

“First, the vaccination has been confirmed to be safe; none of my family and friends who have had their children vaccinated have given bad feedback.” The second reason is that she wants face-to-face sessions to return as soon as possible so that the kids can enjoy their childhood,” she explained.

Edlyn Luna, a front-line nurse at the Nazareth General Hospital, said the immunization is her Valentine’s Day gift to her daughter, who was the only one in the family who had not been vaccinated.

According to Gabriel Pascual of the Public Order and Safety Office (POSO), they can bring the virus home despite being vaccinated, therefore the only way to safeguard their children is to have them immunized as well.

Aguedo Fernandez, Superintendent of the Dagupan City Schools Division, praised the city government’s efforts.

He said this is a significant step forward for the Department of Education’s goal of increasing the number of schools to accommodate the limited number of face-to-face sessions.

“If we ask the professionals, the country’s economic managers, and even international experts, they all agree that pediatric immunization would open the path for us to return to full face-to-face classrooms.” And with students (of all levels) out in force, the economy will be boosted even further,” Mayor Marc Brian Lim said in an interview.

Lim also urged a delegate from the Department of Health in the Ilocos Region for a continuous supply of vaccinations for the new age group, citing the city vaccination team’s success.

He stated that people must register at https://vaccine.dagupan.gov.ph for the immunization schedule.
