MANILA, Philippines – The Diocese of Legazpi in Albay has issued a warning to the public about a text message requesting financial aid for the purchase of a tabernacle.

“It has come to our attention that a text message claiming to be from Msgr. Crispin C. Bernarte Jr., Vicar General for Administration and Pastor of Our Lady of Fatima Parish, has been sent to a large number of people, requesting financial assistance for the purchase of a tabernacle,” the diocese said in a Facebook post on Tuesday.

Bernarte did not send the text message requesting financial assistance after the tabernacle was stolen, according to the report.

“We are warning the public to be cautious since this is a fraud.” “Msgr. Bernarte did not send any text messages requesting financial assistance,” the statement claimed.

The bishop of Legazpi also advised the people to contact them as soon as they get such SMS messages.

“Please send us a message via the Diocese of Legazpi Facebook page if you received the same text message, or one identical to it, with any of our clergy requesting for funds,” it said.
