MANILA — Senatorial challenger Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro will advocate for a more aggressive campaign to promote Philippine-made items, with the “buy local” campaign concentrating on raising consumer knowledge of the economic benefits of doing so.

Teodoro added in a statement that consumers should be aware of the advantages of buying local brands because doing so will help local businesses expand and create more jobs for Filipinos.

Filipinos prefer to buy imported items because of their quality or because they are cheaper than locally created goods, according to the former Defense Secretary and Tarlac congressman.

“We should promote the economic benefits of buying local products among customers.” “Our local micro, small, and medium companies (MSMEs) will thrive and expand if we help them,” Teodoro stated. “They (MSMEs) will provide more work chances and livelihood opportunities for Filipinos.”

He went on to say that the government should increase funding for initiatives that help MSMEs grow capacity, allowing them to improve product quality while gaining economies of scale.

According to Teodoro, products created in the Philippines will be known for their high quality and low pricing as a result of these activities.

He also believes that government entities should be required to purchase a specific percentage of their needs from local suppliers.
