SAN FERNANDO CITY. As of February 14, at least 1,273 children aged five to eleven had been immunized against the coronavirus illness 2019 (Covid-19).

Dr. Rheuel Bobis, the Covid-19 focal person for the Department of Health Center for Health Development Ilocos Region (DOH-CHD-1), said 17 identified launching locations, predominantly hospitals with only five local government units, are part of the immunization sites in a phone interview on Wednesday.

“The objective is to roll out the immunization to the entire region in a week,” he added, adding that this would be contingent on vaccine supply.

He also stated that the region has received around 57,000 dosages to be used in the rollout.

Those with comorbidities are included in the inoculation of children aged five to eleven, according to Bobis.

“All they have to do is provide a medical certificate from their primary care physician,” he explained.

According to Bobis, no major side effects have been documented among people who have received the immunizations.

“Fever, soreness in the injection region, and weakness or exhaustion were all common adverse effects,” he noted.

Pfizer vaccines, according to Bobis, will be given to this young demographic since they have been granted emergency use authorization by the Food and Drug Administration.

“Despite the fact that they are of the same brand, the vaccination formulation for children will be different due to the lower dosage,” he explained.

He went on to say that the children’s vaccine serves the same aim as the adults’: to protect them from the severe effects of Covid-19 as well as death from the coronavirus.

The vaccine, according to Bobis, is safe.

“We plan to immunize 60% of the target population in one month, commencing February 14,” he added, adding that the other 40% will be immunized during the next two months.

According to Bobis, 70,133 people have comorbidities.
