Lacson will be honored with a ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ by PMA alumni.

Sen. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson of the Partido Reporma will be honored by the Philippine Military Academy Alumni Association, Inc. (PMAAAI) with a “Lifetime Achievement Award” in appreciation of his over 50 years of excellent contributions to government and public service.

Lacson cited a letter signed by PMAAAI chairperson and chief executive officer Amado T. Espina, Jr. on December 15, 2021, in which he was described as a person who established a “reputation beyond reproach and worthy of emulation” that brought honor not only to himself and his family but also to the entire PMA and its alumni organization.

Lacson will leave on Friday for Benguet, ahead of the PMA’s annual alumni homecoming and parade on Saturday at Borromeo Field in Fort del Pilar, Baguio City.

Members of the PMAAAI Board of Directors unanimously voted for the former Philippine National Police (PNP) commander to receive the award for his “exemplary and flawless service to the country,” typified by his “faithful dedication to the qualities of Courage, Loyalty, and Integrity.”

Lacson told Bombo Radyo on Thursday that he will accept the award alongside his fellow cavaliers, who will also be honored for their accomplishments and contributions during the occasion.

Former Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Director General Anselmo Avenido, former PMA Superintendent Melchor Rosales, and former Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Edgar Aglipay are among the other award recipients.

Lacson initially suggested getting a “Lifetime Achievement Award” in a presidential interview aired last month on the ABS-CBN News Channel, where he chose to dodge a question that would show his political opponents in a negative light and instead focus on his accomplishments.

“Ako, 50 years, tatanggap nga na Lifetime Achievement Award sa PMA sa February,” says the recipient. Ang tingin ko, ‘yung na-i-contribute ko sa ating society, parang tama na ‘yung na-i-contribute ko sa ating society, parang tama na ‘yung na-i-contribute k But, see, ‘yung experience ko [at] ‘yung track record ko (I’ve been in government for 50 years.) In fact, the PMA is ready to present me with a Lifetime Achievement Award in February. I thought I had made enough contributions to our society. But, look, with my experience and track record, maybe I can still do more),” he continued.

Lacson and his campaign companion, Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, are counting on their combined 83 years of public service, 42 of which were spent in the Senate and the rest in executive branch positions.

They’ve agreed to run for office on their own merits, not on the weaknesses of their opponents.

Lacson already received the PMAAAI’s Cavalier Award for Public Administration in 2020 for driving the battle against corruption in the Senate by creating laws encouraging openness and public accountability in government.

Lacson also stated that he plans to make the most of his two-day visit to Baguio City by engaging in interaction with a variety of groups to explain himself and his anti-corruption and good governance platforms to the city’s citizens.

Before returning to Manila to resume the Southern Luzon part of his ongoing national campaign alongside Sotto and their senatorial candidates next week, he wants to take a side trip to the nearby provinces of Pangasinan and Nueva Ecija.

On top of adopting the taglines ‘Aayusin ang Gobyerno at Uubusin ang Magnanakaw’ (‘Fix the Government’ and ‘Get Rid of the Thieves,’ the notion of “leading by example” has become a rallying cry for the Lacson-Sotto duo and members of their campaign teams.
