OFWs in Qatar have a variety of job alternatives.

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in Doha stated on Friday that Filipino migrant workers will have job chances in Qatar because the country will be hosting an international event in November.

In a virtual conference, Labor Attaché Adam Musa stated that more opportunities in the tourism and hospitality sectors are available for workers in the Gulf nation that will host the FIFA World Cup this year.

“At the time, the hospitality business is in high demand due to FIFA’s requirements, as well as retail stores and the tourism-related sector. Because Qatar continues to invite more tourists even after FIFA, and they will continue to support world events, the tourism business is a good potential that would benefit our employees’ community,” the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) official stated.

Musa stated that he is confident that hosting the athletic event will boost the economy and create jobs in the host country.

“It would have a huge impact on their economy.” “Increase revenue as a result of this global event,” he stated.

According to Musa, the company is presently processing 250 job contracts every day.

“We were able to process around 3,000 workers over the course of six months in 2020.” But now it’s around 3,000 people every month. Based on those facts, we can see that there are both returning and new workers compared to 2020 figures; the figures I’m reporting are for 2021. The disparity is significant, indicating that their economy is booming and demand for Filipino employees is growing,” he noted.

In the Arab country, there are approximately 250,000 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), the bulk of them are home service workers (HSWs).

“There are over 130,000 domestic employees.” “The rest are professionals, either highly skilled or semi-skilled,” he explained.

Filipinos get a minimum wage of 1,500 riyals (about USD400) (around PHP20,000).

“They get PHP50,000 or more for highly skilled workers like engineers,” Musa remarked.
