ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Although verified cases of infection continued to rise, the City Health Office stated Saturday that it had registered 26,690 people who had overcome the coronavirus illness 2019 (Covid-19), marking a 93.67 percent recovery rate.

Since the commencement of the pandemic in March 2020, the City Health Office has registered 28,492 total cases of Covid-19, with 26,690 recoveries, 616 active cases, and 1,186 deaths.

According to the health office, 607 of the 616 active cases were acquired by community transmission, accounting for 98.53 percent of the total.

Five of the active cases involved Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) employees, three inmates, and one authorized person outside of housing, according to the report (APOR).

The health condition of active cases is as follows: 70.1 percent are asymptomatic; 25.9% have mild symptoms; 2.5 percent have moderate symptoms; 0.5 percent have severe symptoms; and one percent have critical symptoms.

According to the City Health Office, 1,176 of the 1,186 deaths are from the community, with four being persons deprived of liberty (PDL), and the remainder being detainees, APOR, or from the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor).

According to the City Health Office, 20 of the city’s 98 barangays have high active cases.

The city of Zamboanga is still on Level 3 alert till February 28.
