The Bureau of Immigration approves the immigration of Pinoys’ overseas parents and children from ‘visa nations.’

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) announced on Wednesday that visa-required foreign nationals who are parents or children of Filipinos can now enter the country without an entry exemption document (EED) from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

While these visitors are no longer required to submit EEDs upon arrival at airports, Commissioner Jaime Morente stated that they must still get the necessary 9(a) visas from any of the Philippine embassies or consulates abroad.

He said the policy is pursuant to the latest resolution issued by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) which amended a previous resolution that exempted only foreign spouses of Filipinos from securing an EED before entering the Philippines.

“We applaud the IATF’s decision to relax travel restrictions for foreigners who are close relatives of our kababayans. It would enable families to reconnect, as well as attract more international tourists, assisting in the rebuilding of our economy, which has been severely harmed by the pandemic,” Morente said in a statement.

The BI head, however, stated that the foreign spouses, parents, and children of Filipino nationals should have the notation “Foreign Spouse/Parent/Child not covered by IATF Resolution 160-B; No EED Required” on their sticker visas.

In a letter dated February 17, the DFA requested the BI to allow holders of valid 9(a) visas with the said note to enter the Philippines without an EED.

The agency also told the bureau that all Philippine foreign service posts have been instructed to apply the notation when providing visas to foreign spouses, parents, and children of Filipino nationals who require a visa.

The IATF-EID resolution arose from the government’s earlier decision to enable international travelers from countries covered by Executive Order (EO) 408 to enter the Philippines without a visa for 30 days.

Currently, there are more than 150 nations mentioned under the order whereas foreigners from countries not covered by the EO need to get a 9(a) visa to enter the Philippines even if they are married to or are parents or children of Filipinos who may or may not be traveling with them.
