MANILA, Philippines — Vicente Sotto III, the vice-presidential candidate, and Senate President, said on Wednesday that he is more than ready to confront his opponents in the coming debates because it will offer him a better chance to set forth ideas to improve the lives of Filipinos.

This is because Sotto will confront six other candidates in the vice presidential discussion on Saturday, which will be hosted by CNN Philippines.

Former Rep. Walden Bello, Manny Lopez, Rizalito David, Sen. Francis Pangilinan, Carlos Serapio, and Dr. Willie Ong are among the guests.

Sara Duterte, the mayor of Davao City, and Lito Atienza, the former mayor of Manila, will not be present.

Debates, according to Sotto, are the finest venue for candidates to charm voters because they bring out the best or worst in people.

People can have a better understanding of a candidate’s standpoint by watching debates, he added, citing an example where a previously undecided voter changed his decision in their favor after watching previous debates.

“After the debate, may botante, sabi ng anak niya, ‘nagbago ang isip ko,’ iboboto ko na si Sen. (Panfilo) Lacson,” Sotto said in a statement.

Sotto claimed that he and Lacson have been hinting at what they propose to do to improve the lives of Filipinos since August of last year, despite the fact that they have not yet formally announced their intention to run in the May 9 elections.

Lacson, labor leader Leody de Guzman, former presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella, Dr. Jose Montemayor Jr., former national security adviser Norberto Gonzales, Senator Emmanuel Pacquiao, Faisal Mangondato, Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso, and Vice President Leni Robredo have all confirmed their participation in a presidential debate on CNN Philippines on Sunday.

Former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is the sole presidential candidate who will not participate in the debate due to a scheduling conflict.
