Isko: The Edsa revolution serves as a caution to officials not to abuse their positions of authority.

MANILA, Philippines β€” The 1986 Edsa People Power Revolution teaches elected leaders not to abuse the power entrusted to them by the people, presidential candidate Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso said on Thursday.

During a visit to Gen. Mariano Alvarez (GMA) in Cavite, Domagoso emphasized that while people should live in the present to build a brighter future, the revolution’s teachings should never be forgotten.

He believes that the peaceful uprising should serve as a constant reminder to elected leaders that their power derives from the people through elections, but that the people can also take it away.

“Pagsisikap ng sambayanag Pilipino ay bigyan natin ng halaga.” Ang nag alsa at nagpatalsik sa diktadurya ang taong bayan. It is the people who are to blame. As a result, naging pamantayan tayo, ‘yung peaceful revolution,’ kaya dapat lagi nating ipaalala’yun (Let us recognize the Filipino people’s efforts.) The people were the ones who rose up against the regime. “We must always remember that the peaceful revolution set a norm,” Domagoso remarked.

The forthcoming national elections in May 2022 make this year’s celebration of the Edsa People Power more more relevant.

Candidates for various positions should keep in mind that they are seeking the people’s vote in order to serve the people and the country, according to Domagoso.

Domagoso said the revolution was replicated in other regions of the world during a recent campaign sortie in La Union.

Others would emulate the country’s excellent history if it is remembered, while terrible history will warn people not to repeat the sins of the past, he added.

“So bagay lamang na ito’y paulit-ulit nating ipaalala at kilalanin at isalin sa mga susunod na salin-lahi to remind everyone that it is important to remember and pass it on to the next generation, to remind everyone that it is important to remember and pass it on to the next generation, to remind everyone that it is important to remember and pass it on to the next generation,

The 36th anniversary of the Edsa People Power Revolution, when former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. and his family fled to Honolulu, Hawaii, is observed on February 25.
