‘Bayanihan, Bakunahan 4’ aims to vaccinate a greater number of elderly.
MANILA, Philippines โ The Philippines’ Department of Health (DOH) said Saturday that the fourth “Bayanihan, Bakunahan” will be held on March 7, with the goal of vaccinating more older residents this time.
“Nag-announce na si (National Task Force Against Covid-19 Deputy Chief Implementer and Testing Czar) Secretary (Vince) Dizon, ang ating NVD (National Vaccination Days) 4, we’re still finalizing concept (Secretary Vince Dizon has announced that our NVD 4 will be around the week of March 7),” Health Undersecretary Myrna Cabotaje said in a Laging Handa briefing.
This fourth run, according to the official, who is also the chief of the National Vaccination Operations Center, would focus on inoculating more senior persons, especially in areas where vaccine coverage is still low.
Furthermore, the government would increase immunization rates for children aged 12 to 17, especially those who have not yet had their first vaccine series.
Only roughly 3.4 million people were vaccinated during the third edition of Bayanihan, Bakunahan, falling short of the objective of five million vaccines.
Cabotaje stated that no targets had been identified for the March 7 run.
“This week, iyong ating aim ay iku-consult natin sa ating local na pamahalaan. Iyong kailangang taasan pa, lalung-lalo na iyong mabababa iyong immunization coverage, ano ba iyong kailangang taasan pa? (Our targets have to be consulted with local governments this coming week, like what areas needed an increase, especially those with low vaccination coverage). So far, we haven’t found the goal “she stated
As the government prepares for the Alert Level 1 shift, Cabotaje said the DOH would make the most of its existing vaccination measures, such as setting up jab centers in government offices and clinics in economic zones.
The Catholic Church has consented to utilize churches as possible vaccination sites while drive-thru and house-to-house vaccinations continue, according to the official.
The country had vaccinated 63 million individuals as of February 25.
In the meanwhile, she stated that the pandemic task group intends to include a vaccine requirement before a region can be upgraded to Alert Level 1.
“Ang isang highlight natin, na tinitingnan ng (Covid-19 Inter-Agency Task Force) IATF ay iyong pagdagdag ng vaccination requirement โ 70 percent ang dapat vaccination rate ng area at saka 80 percent of the 85 percent total A2 (senior citizens) ay nabakunahan na kasi alam naman, si
If this is the case, Cabotaje believes Metro Manila, or the National Capital Region (NCR), is prepared because it has previously vaccinated 100% of its eligible population, including 91 percent of older individuals.
“Handa na po ang ating NCR mag-Alert Level 1 na kasama din ang Region CAR (Cordillera Administrative Region), Region I, Region II at saka Region III at IV-A,” she said.
