PH must be prepared in the event of another pandemic: Lacson

MANILA, Philippines β€” Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson of the Partido Reporma warned Sunday night that the country must be prepared for another epidemic and that policy guideline must be established for this situation.

“Regardless of whether it’s pandemic or endemic, Covid-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) is here to stay, regardless of whether it’s pandemic or endemic. So kailangan mayroon na tayong policy directions, and we should be ready to meet the next epidemic),” he said during the “The Filipino Votes: Presidential Debate 2022.” “CNN Philippines is hosting the event.

When asked who he would pick to his economic team if he were to win the May 9 elections, Lacson indicated he would appoint specialists in the sector.

“I can’t (name) names at this moment, but ang kailangan talaga maalam sa economy (what’s needed is economic expertise),” he continued.

He believes that health and economics should not be mutually exclusive.

Lacson went on to say that the current Covid-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the country’s micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and that the sector needs “extensive and targeted financial packages and incentives” to help it recover.

To weather such a catastrophe, he also mentioned the importance of a robust relationship between the government and the business sector.

The crisis in Ukraine

When asked if the Philippines should remain neutral in the continuing crisis between Ukraine and Russia, Lacson referenced the Philippine Constitution and Article 1 of the United Nations Charter, which the country ratified together with other member countries, in rejecting Russia’s war on its neighbor.

“Tulad ng sinabi ko, hindi naman masama kung makisama tayo sa mga peace-loving nations para maging bahagi ‘yung boses natin ng pagkondena kasi aggression talaga, invasion eh (As I said, there is nothing wrong if we express our solidarity with other peace-loving nations and add our voice in condemning (the “Added he.

Lacson also praised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for not abandoning his people in the midst of a crisis by putting himself and his forces in harm’s way to preserve their homeland.

He referred to Zelensky as a “A living hero.”

“Dahil tuwing nakikita ko siya, kinikilabutan ako dahil naroon siya katabi ng mga sundalo at handang mamatay para sa kanyang bayan, kinikilabutan ako dahil naroon siya katabi ng mga sundalo at handang mamatay para sa (Every time I see him, I feel the shivers since he is surrounded by (Ukrainian) soldiers and willing to die for his nation.) That somebody is a true leader) “Lacson explained.
