DILG asks supporters to bring their vaccine documents to campaign events.

MANILA, Philippines β€” The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) declared on Tuesday that participants in election campaign activities must still show confirmation of vaccination against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Those attending campaign rallies, caucuses, and other election-related activities should bring their vaccination cards issued by local government units (LGUs) or VaxCertPH digital certificates, according to DILG Undersecretary and Spokesperson Jonathan Malaya.

“So, paalala rin po sa ating mga kababayan na (a reminder to our kababayans), under Comelec Resolution 10732, under Alert Level 1, (campaign activities) are authorized up to 70% of the operational capacity of the venue, whether indoor or outdoor,” he added.

Malaya warned the interested parties that the law enforcement officials will only accept these two Covid-19 vaccination papers.

Malaya also defended the national government’s decision to put Metro Manila and 38 other areas on Alert Level 1, pointing out that the measure’s particular boundaries had been determined.

Some industries have raised concern that the downgrade is a recipe for another coronavirus illness outbreak in 2019 (Covid-19).

“It’s past time for us to deescalate (to Alert Level 1) since our people are already suffering and the economy needs to be revived.” The area must be classified as low-risk (very few instances), total bed usage must be less than 50%, 70% of the target population must be fully vaccinated (against Covid-19), and 80% of A2 (senior citizens) must be fully vaccinated,” he noted.

Malaya stated that the risk of catching the disease is “extremely low and managed” according to the Inter-Agency Task Force’s (IATF) precise instructions.

“Under any Alert Level, the face mask rule, hand hygiene, and vaccine requirement are still in force, so those are our precautions against any hypothetical rise in cases,” Malaya said.

On February 28, Malacanang said that Metro Manila and 38 other locations had been placed under the most relaxed Alert Level 1 regime, over two years after the country had been subjected to numerous health procedures in response to the Covid-19.

Despite campaign sorties, there has been no surge.

Meanwhile, the Department of Health stated that there has been no increase in the number of Covid-19 instances since the start of the national election campaign period.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said at a Palace briefing Tuesday that the agency has not detected an increase in cases, even though certain bets held activities ahead of the official campaign time.

“All are under minimal to low risk [classification] except for two areas in the country na ating binabantayan dahil meron silang moderate na lang po na (All are under minimal to low risk [classification] except for two areas in the country we’re monitoring because of their moderate [risk]) ICU [intensive care unit] utilization,” she explained.

The Department of Health announced last week that all regions across the country are classified as low risk for Covid-19, with the exception of the Cordillera Administrative Region and the Davao Region.

“However, aside from that, case trends in all regions of the country, in all areas of the country, are low to a minimum,” Vergeire continued.

The campaign cycle for national candidates officially began on February 8.

Meanwhile, municipal candidates will begin campaigning on March 25.
