TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines – The Department of Health (DOH) regional office here reported on Tuesday that vaccination against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) had reached 63 percent of the target population in Eastern Visayas.

As of February 26, 81.3 percent of the population in Tacloban, the regional capital, is fully vaccinated, followed by 80.1 percent in Biliran, 77.8% in Ormoc City, 67.7% in Southern Leyte, 66.5 percent in Eastern Samar, 60 percent in Leyte, 57 percent in Samar, and 55.3 percent in Northern Samar.

A total of 3,892,126 people in the region have been identified as being eligible for Covid-19 vaccinations.

2,453,594 people have been fully vaccinated, while 285,271 have been partially vaccinated.

Eastern Visayas is on schedule to vaccinate all eligible populations by mid-2022, according to DOH regional information officer Jelyn Lopez-Malibago.

“We strongly encourage the public to get vaccinated, thanks to the active execution of vaccination initiatives sponsored by local government units and our partners in the government and business sector in the region!” “As we continue to offer additional or booster dosages,” said Jelyn Lopez-Malibago, a regional information officer for the Department of Health.

As the government’s goal of increasing community protection remains in effect, the official emphasizes the need of prioritizing vaccination among those who have not yet received their primary series.

Vaccination has been identified as one of the variables contributing to a decrease in Covid-19 cases in the region.

The region has only detected three to 24 new daily Covid-19 instances in the last seven days.

Eastern Visayas had already documented 61,908 confirmed Covid-19 cases as of February 28, with 61,134 recoveries, 661 deaths, and 113 current cases.
