MALASIQUI, Pangasinan – The town of Malasiqui is located in the province of Pangasinan This year, the Pangasinan Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) hopes to vaccinate 240,000 dogs and cats in the province against rabies.

In a phone interview on Thursday, assistant provincial veterinarian Jovito Tabajeros said the number represents 70% of the total population of cats and dogs in the province.

To improve the immunization campaign, the Pangasinan PVO has been conducting veterinary medical missions in various parts of the province.

Consultations, anti-rabies vaccinations, vitamin delivery, castration of dogs and cats, and cat spaying will all be provided for free.

“A limit of five pets per owner will be authorized for castration and spaying services.” Pets must be fasted for at least eight hours prior to surgery or operation, according to Pangasinan PVO’s Facebook page.

The municipal gymnasium in Basista town on March 4, the provincial veterinary clinic in Lingayen town on March 7, and the municipal auditorium in Umingan town on March 10 will host a veterinary medical mission in honor of Rabies Awareness Month.

The Provincial Health Office’s Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit said in a report that there were no instances of rabies in the province from January 1 to February 28 this year, compared to three occurrences during the same period last year.

Last year, three cases were reported in the communities of Alaminos City, Bani, and Bolinao.
