In February, global food prices reached a new high, according to the FAO.

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) announced in a statement on Friday that global food prices reached an all-time high in February.

The FAO reported that its food price index averaged 140.7 points in February, up 3.9 percent from January and 24.1 percent higher than a year ago.

Vegetable oils and dairy goods were the most expensive, according to the UN agency.

Increased quotations for palm, soy, and sunflower oils pushed the vegetable oils price index to a new high, up 8.5 percent from the previous month.

In February, the dairy price index was 6.4 percent higher than the previous month.

The cereal price index gained 3% on a monthly basis, while the meat price index increased 1.1 percent.

In contrast, the sugar price index fell 1.9 percent in February compared to January.
