The tourism business will take off again. Isko Moreno makes a promise

MANILA, Philippines β€” Under the leadership of Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso, the tourism industry, which has been one of the most hit by the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) epidemic for the past two years, will flourish once more.

On Thursday in Quirino province, the outgoing Manila mayor and Aksyon Demokratiko presidential candidate made the vow, adding that if he wins the May 9 elections, the national government will help damaged tourism places, particularly in remote areas.

“These things are in line with our goals and aspirations if they can produce jobs and opportunity.” In the first two years, I and (running companion) Doc Willie (Ong) have already stated that we will prioritize life and livelihood. And this will be supported as a matter of compromise, promise, and commitment to the Quirino people, particularly in this area,” Domagoso stated during a social media interview in a combination of English and Filipino.

Mayor Nieverose Meneses presented a video montage highlighting the province’s tourist attractions at a town hall meeting sponsored by Domagoso and his slate.

Meneses belongs to the Bugkalot tribe of Nagtipunan’s indigenous people.

The Landingan Viewpoint, an elevated vantage point with a panoramic view of Nagtipunan, the river, and the surrounding landscapes; the 50-meter-high Mactol Falls; the Bimmapor rock formation, which resembles a sunken ship with only the upper decks protruding; and the Pusuac cave and watershed were among the attractions.

Residents of Quirino who worked in the tourism industry, like others in the economy, lost their employment.

The contribution of tourism direct gross value added to the Philippine economy in 2020, as measured by GDP, was predicted to be 5.4 percent or PHP973.31 billion, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

In comparison to the PHP2.51 trillion in 2019, it was down 61.2 percent.

According to PSA data issued in June last year, incoming tourist expenditure decreased by 77.9%, domestic tourism expenditure decreased by 82.3 percent, and outward tourism expenditure decreased by 73.2 percent in 2020.

Internal tourist expenditure, which includes both inbound and domestic tourism, fell by 81.6 percent.

Non-resident visitors (foreign tourists and Filipinos permanently residing abroad) spend money on tourism in the country, whereas resident visitors spend money on tourism in the country, either as a domestic trip or as part of an international trip.

In 2020, the tourism industry sector employed around 4.68 million people, down 18.1 percent from 5.72 million in 2019.

In the same year, employment in the tourism industry accounted for 11.9 percent of overall employment in the country.
