The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has released P3 billion for fuel subsidies and discount schemes.

MANILA, Philippines β€” The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has released a total of PHP3 billion for the implementation of the Department of Transportation’s (DOTr) fuel subsidy program (PHP2.5 billion) and the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) fuel discount program (PHP500 million) to provide targeted assistance to affected sectors and cushion the impact of the recent oil price hikes.

Under the fiscal year 2022 General Appropriations Act, the amounts were levied from the DOTr and DA’s regular budgets.

Under the DOTr’s fuel subsidy program, qualified drivers of UV express, mini-buses, buses, shuttle services, taxis, tricycles, and other full-time ride-hailing services such as transport network vehicle service (TNVS) and motorcycle taxis, as well as delivery services, will receive financial assistance worth PHP6,500.

The subsidy can be claimed through cash cards from the Landbank of the Philippines by the listed 377,443 beneficiaries.

The Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has collaborated with the Departments of Interior and Local Government and Communication and Technology to identify beneficiaries, particularly on the lists of qualified tricycle drivers, ride-hailing services, and delivery services, respectively.

The Department of Agriculture’s (DA) fuel discount program aims to provide gasoline savings to farmers and fishermen who own agricultural or fishing machinery, either individually or through organizations.

Fuel discount cards (FDCs), which will be distributed in collaboration with the Development Bank of the Philippines, will be used to claim the discount.

The FDCs will subsequently be delivered to qualified beneficiaries by the DA’s Regional Field Offices.

The recipients can use their FDCs to obtain a maximum gasoline discount of PHP3,000 from the contracted oil companies or petrol stations.

The DBM will continue to work closely with implementing agencies to ensure that monies are released in a timely manner for the implementation of programs aimed at assisting the most vulnerable sectors.
