MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has urged private-sector employers to excuse employees who will be getting vaccinations or accompanying their children during the fourth edition of the ‘Bayanihan, Bakunahan’ Covid-19 Vaccination Days (NVD), which will take place from Thursday to Saturday.

“Employers are strongly encouraged to let their employees receive vaccinations or accompany their children to receive vaccinations without being considered absent,” said Secretary Silvestre Bello III in Labor Advisory No. 05.

The Department of Labor also requested that employers enable employees to spend their vacation time for this reason.

“The concerned employees may also be allowed to use their available leave credits to cover their absence during the NVD,” it noted, “subject to the business policy or a collective bargaining agreement permitting the same.”

All private-sector employees are covered by the advisory, especially those who are due for second dose shots or missed doses, unvaccinated individuals in priority group A2 (senior citizens), medical and economic front-line workers who have yet to receive booster shots, and parents who will accompany their children for vaccination.

The Philippines has vaccinated more than 70% of its target population against the coronavirus, with the fourth edition of ‘Bayanihan, Bakunahan’ seeking to inoculate 1.8 million individuals.

The big immunization drive’s first edition took place from November 29 to December 1, 2021, and 9.9 million individuals were immunized.

The second phase, with 7.4 million doses, lasted from December 15 to December 23, 2021, and the third phase, with 3 million doses, lasted from February 10 to 18.
