29 BP2 recipients have returned to Bicol.

MANILA, Philippines β€” Through the government’s “Balik Probinsya, Bagong Pag-Asa (BP2)” program, 29 beneficiaries, including seven families and one individual, returned home to the provinces of Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Naga City on Thursday.

The beneficiaries underwent a two-day verification and review by the National Housing Authority (NHA) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) starting Wednesday at the BP2 Depot in Quezon City, prior to their scheduled 9 p.m. departure.

Before being sent back to their provinces, recipients must complete registration, orientation, and swab testing to ensure that they are free of the coronavirus disease.

Informal settlers in Metro Manila who choose to return to their home provinces would be supplied with transportation, cash aid, and job possibilities under the BP2 initiative.

On Tuesday, the BP2 helped to ease the repatriation of 31 people to Albay.

One of the recipients, Jonah Bonaobra, expressed gratitude for the program, saying, “It’s a big comfort for folks like them to have been given another chance to start over in their hometowns.”

“Because nung nag-apply kami simula pa ng pandemic, hindi po namin inaasahan. Tapos, kami tinawagan mahigit isang taon ngayon. We didn’t expect this, and we’ve been applying for the program since the pandemic.) After a year, we were approached. We weren’t expecting it, but now that we’ve gotten a call from BP2, we’re overjoyed) “Jonah remarked.

Carlo San Fernando, 25, is one of the recipients who will return to Camarines Norte on Thursday night. He recalls struggling to find work in the region before being persuaded to relocate to Metro Manila by friends. Fortunately, he found work as a laborer in a building company.

Carlo believed that living in the Metro would be easier than living in the province.

Carlo’s livelihood was interrupted when the virus struck. After that, he had financial difficulties.

Carlo said he quickly joined the program after learning that the government was supporting stranded persons like him in returning to the regions.

“Magtatrabaho ako sa probinsya na lang. Salamat sa programa, tinutulungan kami sa pag-uwi (Instead of working in the city, I shall work in the province.) Thank you for this initiative, which has made it possible for us to return home); “Carlo remarked.

Carlo felt that after all of the struggle he had in Metro Manila hunting for a better job, it was best to return to his village forever.

Michelle Alinsod, a BP2 beneficiary’s orientation facilitator, expressed her joy at becoming a part of the government’s flagship program, which provides new beginnings to those who have lost their good fortune in the province due to their decision to stay in Metro Manila.

“Masaya ako kasi nakakatulong sa mga taong gusto nang bumalik sa kani-kanilang probinsya, kahit nag-aassist lang po. Masaya ako sa ginagawa ko (I’m delighted because I can help individuals who want to return to their home provinces in some way, even if it’s simply aiding.) Michelle stated, “I’m delighted with what I’m doing),” adding that she chose to do her job because she is also a “probinsyana.” “from the island of Cebu

Michelle stated that simply serving the BP2 recipients gives her a sense of fulfillment.

President Rodrigo Duterte signed Executive Order No. 114 on May 6, formalizing the Balik Probinsya initiative, which aims to alleviate traffic congestion in Metro Manila by assisting informal settlers to return to their home regions.

Qualified beneficiaries may be able to obtain sustainable livelihoods through the BP2 program, while the government implements a streamlined system of fiscal incentives for export-oriented and domestic-oriented businesses, as well as support for micro, small, and medium businesses.
