The couple leaves Manila to take advantage of the BP2 opportunity for their children’s health.

MANILA, Philippines β€” A couple has opted to take advantage of the Balik Probinsya Bagong Pag-asa (BP2) Program’s opportunity to return to their home province of Masbate in order to enhance the health of their children who suffer from severe asthma.

Florentino Atacador, 39, and Roselyn Tolentino, 40, both stressed the importance of their children’s health.

“Because sabi ko baka sa probinsya kasi dito puro pollution di ba,” he said. “Ang daming nagsabi na iuwi nyo na lang sa probinsya yan kasi gagaling sila pag nandun, kasi dito lahat, pag puro chemicals eh dun sa probin Many people advise us to simply return the children to the province so they can recover because nearly everything here contains poisons. The air is clean throughout the province. They’re not going to inhale them),” Tolentino explained.

All three of their children, aged 4 and 3 years old, as well as an 8-month-old, suffer from asthma and low potassium, according to her. They feel that the province’s pure air and food will significantly improve their health.

“Lagi pa kaming nasa ospital kasi bumababa yung potassium nila wala namang pagkain wala naman kaming mapag anuhan tapos me hika pa, lahat sila,” she said.

She claims to have sold traditional delicacies (kakanin) that she prepares herself.

However, due to her children’s medical condition, she is no longer able to prepare these delights because their children are allergic to smoking. Their youngsters are sickened even by the sweet smell of fabric softeners in their neighbors’ freshly washed garments.

Since the coronavirus pandemic 2019 (Covid-19) hit the country, her spouse has been earning less.

Atacador, who works as a welder, said he was fortunate in that he did not lose his job as many others did. His pay, on the other hand, has been slashed by more than half.

He claimed that his pre-pandemic weekly earnings were around PHP5,000, but that they had subsequently been reduced to PHP2,000.

With his children being admitted to the hospital on a regular basis and his wages being cut, Atacador said he decided to apply for the BP2 program.

“Me narinig kami sa ano, marami daw benepisyo makukuha,” he added. “Sa online lang ako nag ano tapos sa balita sa tv, yun lang, kaya sinubukan kong mag apply, kaso isang taon ding mahigit eh bago na approve (I heard many advantages are being offered

Despite the lengthy wait, Atacador considered themselves fortunate to have been picked as one of the recipients.

He stated that he had heard that many people had applied for the program, but that only a small percentage of those who applied received a call from the BP2 Secretariat.

When they arrived in Masbate, he stated that they would be temporarily residing with his mother.

They also intend to establish a small store, rear animals, and set up a small welding shop, according to him.

For the time being, he said, they’ll have to make do with what the government’s BP2 program provides.

“Yun naman daw po me mga ibibigay na tulong, sana naman magkatotoo, pangkabuhayan daw,” says the narrator. (They claimed they would help, and I hope they are honest; they said they would help for a living.) Any assistance that can assist us is acceptable),” Atacador stated.

“Pasalamat na lang kami kahit papano nagkaron ng programang ganito kahit sa pag uwi pa lang pahirapan na di ba dati,” he added.

Atacador’s family was one of nine Masbate provincial families who benefited from the BP2 initiative.

The BP2 Secretariat reported that on Tuesday morning, all 37 beneficiaries heading to Masbate left the Quezon City depot.

The recipients are slated to arrive at Pilar, Sorsogon Port around 9 p.m. and board the RORO vessel bound for Masbate Port at midnight.
