DND is committed to upholding the Constitution and dismisses the call from the RevGov.

MANILA, Philippines β€” Despite calls from some quarters for the installation of a revolutionary government, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana stated Tuesday night that the DND remains dedicated to the Constitution.

“We at the Department of Defense criticize (retired) Lt. Gen. (Antonio) Parlade’s attempt to use the Department, particularly the AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines), to voice his personal complaints and push for a revolutionary government,” Lorenzana said in a statement to media.

All Filipinos have the right to freedom of expression as citizens of a democratic country, he said, but it must be exercised through proper grievance systems.

“The DND will continue to respect the mandates of our democratic institutions while adhering to constitutional authority. We will continue to execute our solemn responsibility to the country “Lorenzana remarked.

He stated that all AFP officers have been ordered to remain apolitical and neutral.

“Active military members are prohibited by the Constitution from participating in party politics or endorsing candidates. We’ll make sure it’s followed and enforced “Lorenzana went on to say.

Parlade previously stated that they are not advocating for a revolutionary government as a solution to the country’s problems, particularly in light of the suspected corruption in the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

“We are not advocating revolutionary governance as a solution. We are not claiming that this is the answer. We are simply alerting the public of our current condition. It’s entirely up to you. Tingnan nyo kung anong soluyon na ito (Try to find a proper solution for this). If you think it’s revgov (revolutionary government), then so be it “he stated

On Tuesday morning, Parlade and an estimated 100 supporters held a conversation at the People Power Monument in Quezon City to denounce suspected corruption in the poll commission.

Parlade is a former chief of the Southern Luzon Command and one of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict’s spokespersons.

He took over for Katipunan ng Demokratikong Pilipino (KDP) presidential aspirant and former education undersecretary Antonio Valdez on November 13, 2021.

Independent aspirants, on the other hand, are not permitted to be substituted under Comelec guidelines.

His name was eventually removed off the final list of presidential contenders for the 2022 elections.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) agreed with the DND, saying that calls for a revolutionary government are risky and imprudent in the run-up to the elections.

“While we recognize Parlade’s right to free expression, we urge him to respect properly constituted authorities, be more responsible and careful in expressing his personal opinions, and seek the proper legal mechanisms to resolve his concerns,” DILG Secretary Eduardo Ao said in a statement.

He went on to say that the DILG and its attached agencies, the Philippine National Police (PNP), the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), are committed to upholding the Constitution and the chain of command, and will carry out their mandate to ensure peaceful and orderly communities during the election period.

“We also urge all local government units (LGUs) to disregard Parlade’s remark and continue to provide public service that meets the demands of your jurisdiction notwithstanding the extremely political context,” he added.
