Duterte rejects calls to halt e-sabong operations.

MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte has resisted requests to halt e-operations. sabong’s (online cockfighting).

Duterte stated in a prerecorded Talk to the People broadcast Wednesday morning that if he follows the recommendation to temporarily cease e-sabong activities, the government will incur significant financial losses.

“Ito ang sabihin ko sa mga senator, ang interest lang talaga ng gobyerno is’yung pera (This is what I would tell the senators: The government’s interest is the money).” “Actually, that’s all there is to it,” Duterte stated.

The President made the remarks while acknowledging the “strong clamor” from Congress to halt e-sabotage efforts.

Following a succession of suspected abductions and disappearances of cockfighting fans in recent months, calls for the multibillion-dollar industry to be shut down have become louder.

Twenty-three senators endorsed Resolution 996, urging the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (Pagcor) to suspend e-sabong operators’ licenses and halt all related activities until the cases of 31 missing cockfighting fans are handled.

E-sabong is a ‘good’ product.

Duterte said that he used to “detest” gambling, but that he had no choice but to allow it to continue because it is “good” for the country.

“Ang ano ko lang kasi is, gambling is beneficial because the government enables it,” says the author. “If it’s horrible, then there’s no… You can’t hunt for a justification to excuse it,” he explained.

Because the government is “short of money,” Duterte urged lawmakers that they should respect his decision to allow e-sabong to continue operating.

“Ang request ko sa mga congressmen, huwag niyong anuhin iyan, kumikita iyan,” she said. No one benefits from its activities, except Pagcor and key players [of e-sabong]),” Duterte stated. “My advice to lawmakers is to simply not seek for its suspension. It is generating money. No one benefits from its operations, except Pagcor and key players [of e-sabong].”

From April to December 2021, the government was able to receive PHP3.69 billion from the gaming operations of eight e-sabong licensees, according to Pagcor chair Andrea Domingo.

From January to March 15, 2022, there was a collection of roughly PHP1.37 billion from the operations of seven licensees, Domingo noted.

Two of the eight e-sabong operators have already been suspended, according to Domingo, for failing to meet their “financial requirements.”

The matter of the missing aficionados is being investigated by law enforcement.

In the situation of the missing aficionados, Duterte said he would defer to the law enforcement forces.

Duterte made the statement after speculating that some of the missing cockfight fans were participating in “widespread game-fixing.”

“I’m sad na nawala sila,” she says (that they went missing). I’m not sure. I honestly have no idea. Perhaps it’s because game fixing is so common. Ang mga tao, bakit mawala ang rason kung rason na rason na rason na rason na ra “If there’s no reason, why would they go missing? The amount of persons who have gone missing is too large,” he remarked.

Despite this, Duterte expressed optimism that law enforcement officials would be able to solve the cases of the missing people.

“I’m confident that the police pati (and) the NBI (National Bureau of Investigation) will know the outcome.” Ang tao kilala nila ang tao kilala nila ang (They know who are behind that). Everyone is aware. “That’s my opinion,” he stated. “‘Yung nangyayari doon sa ano (the e-sabong issue),’ it’s up to law enforcement to solve it.”

At least eight suspects have already been identified, according to Interior Secretary Eduardo Año.

“Ay hihingin na natin ang tulong ng korte sa oras na makuha na natin ang sapat na ebidensya.” At sa bisa ng mga warrant, agad nating hahanapin ang mga suspect na ito para mabigyang linaw na ang mga insidente at mapatawan ng hustisya ang mga taong responsible dito (Once we are able to gather evidence, we will ask the court for assistance; once the warrants are issued, we will immediately look for the suspects to shed light on

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), according to Año, has noticed crucial aspects in relation to the missing cockfighting fans.

According to the CIDG study, all of the missing sabungeros were last seen near or within the cockpit arenas’ premises, and nearly all of the vehicles they travelled in were found abandoned near their homes.

Año further pointed out that these cockpit venues either lack or have malfunctioning closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems, with the individuals of interest in these situations being their security or management personnel.

“Hindi po ang PNP ang nagsusumikap ma-resolve ang kasong ito ang nagsusumikap ma-resolve ang kasong ito ang nagsusumikap ma-resolve ang kasong it (missing sabungeros). Patuloy ang pagtutulungan ng pambansang kapulisan, ang National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) at ang ating mga korteng panlalawigan, panglungsod at ang Department of Justice (DOJ) upang mapanatag at hindi na mangamba ang ating mga kababayan
