MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines, according to President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, would remain impartial in the continuing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Duterte refused to take sides in a speech held in Palo, Leyte, saying he would prefer not to interfere in Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

During the inauguration of the new Leyte Provincial Capitol and the turnover of different government projects in Eastern Visayas, Duterte said, “Itong neutrality nga ‘to (This neutrality), we just keep it.”

The declaration was given by Duterte, who reiterated that the Philippines will not choose a conflict with anyone.

“Hindi natin iyan, huwag tayong makialam (This isn’t our war.)” Let’s not get in the way),” he remarked.

He, on the other hand, expressed concern about the global implications of the confrontation between Russia and Ukraine, particularly if it worsens and develops into a nuclear war.

“It’s the end of the world if it goes nuclear.” “Tapos na talaga lahat (It’s the end of everything),” remarked Duterte.

The International Court of Justice (ICJ), the UN’s top court for international disputes, has ordered Russia to cease military measures in Ukraine immediately, expressing “deep concern” over Moscow’s use of force.

In February, Ukraine filed a complaint with the International Court of Justice (ICJ) against Russia, seeking to start legal proceedings against Moscow’s invasion.

Duterte claimed that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s current condition is “hurting” him since he considers Putin to be a “friend.”

“Nasasakitan ako sa Russia, ako diyan.” I’m hurting because Putin is a buddy of mine. “He’s a personal buddy of mine,” he explained.

Duterte stated the Philippines must remain neutral until “reality” forces the country to “choose whose side we would be” during the inauguration of the Narvacan Farmers’ Market in Ilocos Sur on March 4.

Putin, according to Duterte, is now a “suicidal” leader.
