MANILA, Philippines – The Bureau of Immigration (BI) announced Monday that the summer season is expected to see 12,000 arrivals at the country’s international airports.

Commissioner Jaime Morente stated that two weeks after the national government approved the entry of fully vaccinated foreign nationals from visa-free countries, the daily arrival rate exceeded 9,000.

“Now, a month later, we’re seeing more than 10,000 daily arrivals,” he said in a statement. “During the summer season, when many foreign nationals flock to our tourist destinations to enjoy the tropical weather, this figure could reach 12,000 or more.”

He stated that the figures include passengers returning from the Philippines.

Lawyer Carlos Capulong, head of the Bureau of Immigration’s Port Operations Division, assured that they are prepared to serve the increased number of travelers entering the country.

“Our men have been deployed in full force, and we have assigned 100% of our airport personnel to conduct document inspections for arriving passengers. Additionally, the e-gates are fully operational, which significantly reduces processing time,” he said.

“We are confident that in the coming months, we will be able to provide immigration services to a greater number of arriving passengers,” he added.

Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, Secretary of Tourism, previously stated that she hopes the Philippines can fully reopen its doors to foreign tourists by April of this year.

“At the moment, the Philippines is only open to 157 visa-free countries, but we hope to open to all foreigners by April,” she said in a television interview.

She stated that the Department of Foreign Affairs recommended limiting leisure travelers to visa-free countries, an easing of restrictions that began on February 10.
