Soccsksargen’s minimum wage is being reviewed by a panel.

CITY OF GENERAL SANTOS – The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board – Soccsksargen (RTWPB-12) will conduct a public consultation on possible minimum wage rate adjustments in the region.

According to Jessie Dela Cruz, secretary of RTWPB-12, the move is part of the board’s ongoing review of the area’s socio-economic situation and its impact on the prevailing minimum wage.

The public consultation will take place at the Anchor Hotel on March 30.

“This is to determine whether a new wage order should be issued, given the region’s current socioeconomic situation,” Dela Cruz explained.

As of Wednesday, the official stated that the agency had not received any petitions for wage adjustments and that the review was conducted “motu proprio,” or on the RTWPB’s initiative.

Dela Cruz stated that under the amended rules of procedure on minimum wage fixing, the RTWPB may initiate a minimum wage review on its own or in response to a petition filed.

The public consultation will be open to officials and representatives from the labor and employer sectors, as well as government agencies, he added.

Additionally, interested parties may attend the activity and submit position papers to the RTWPB-12 regarding the minimum wage issue.

Minimum wage rates in the region are currently PHP336 for non-agricultural workers and PHP315 for agricultural, retail, and service workers, based on 2020 wage adjustments.

The provinces of South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and North Cotabato, as well as the cities of General Santos, Koronadal, Tacurong, and Kidapawan, comprise Soccsksargen.
