4000 cops in the NCR to protect local bets’ campaign

MANILA, Philippines β€” 4,000 police personnel will be deployed by the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) to oversee the peaceful conduct of local campaign activities, which begin on Friday.

Maj. Gen. Felipe Natividad, the chief of the NCRPO, stated on Thursday that police officers in the region are equipped to patrol and monitor their areas of duty in order to avoid criminal activity and respond to unpleasant situations.

The Manila Police District (MPD), Quezon City Police District (QCPD), Northern Police District (NPD), Southern Police District (SPD), and Eastern Police District (EPD) are the five police districts that make up the NCRPO (EPD).

“Given that we are currently experiencing a global health crisis, the upcoming National and Local Elections in 2022 are projected to be more challenging than they were previously.” In order to adapt to the changing environment, we must change our strategy,” Natividad stated in a statement.

He also stated that they will maintain a high level of police presence and perform continuous operations to ensure that the polls are safe, peaceful, and fair.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has abolished the need that rally organizers to acquire licenses from its campaign committee before staging protests in locations designated as Alert Levels 1 and 2.

For Alert Level 1 and 2 locations, campaign activities have been approved at 100% capacity and 70% capacity, respectively.

Previously, campaign operations in areas under Alert Level 1 were limited to 70 percent capacity, while campaign activities in areas under Alert Level 2 were limited to 50 percent capacity.

Despite the eased campaign guidelines, handshakes, kissing, and taking pictures are still prohibited due to the coronavirus epidemic.

Meanwhile, the NCRPO is executing the “Ligtas Sumvac 2022” in observance of the Summer Vacation and will deploy 11,352 police officers to preserve peace and order, enforce the law, and oversee the application of minimum public health standard protocols throughout the region.

Despite the lower limits on mobility and assembly of people imposed by the downgraded alert level classification, Natividad assured optimum police presence within regions of convergence.

With events such as Philippine Veterans Week, Araw ng Kagitingan, Lenten Season, Labor Day, Flores De Mayo, and National and Local Elections taking place during SUMVAC, the police force anticipates an influx of people in public places such as tourist destinations, transportation hubs terminals, places of worship, malls, markets, commercial areas, parks, and other areas of the community.

In addition, Natividad directed all district directors and station commanders to concentrate on implementing the increased managing police operations plan and other preventative security measures while the public enjoys family gatherings, town fiestas, and other key events.

Furthermore, target hardening measures, traffic management/direction, and control, and other related police public safety services have been coordinated among partner agencies such as the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), local government units (LGUs), force multipliers, volunteer groups, and other concerned agencies to ensure the safety and protection of the public and their properties.

For this summer vacation, the NCRPO’s Regional Community Affairs Development Division (RCADD) will distribute safety recommendations pamphlets, as well as strengthen public involvement and information distribution.

Natividad encouraged Metro Manila citizens to remain attentive and aware in order to prevent unscrupulous people from taking advantage of the season.
