MANILA, Philippines – Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson, an independent presidential candidate, reiterated Sunday that he is prepared to continue his campaign in the absence of a political party.

He added that he has grown accustomed to being a “mandirigma” (warrior) over the course of his 50 years in public service, both as a law enforcement officer and as a legislator.

“For the last 50 years, I’ve been used to being alone in a lonely crusade against a corrupt system. Nonetheless, I am all-in and all-out. Having been a warrior once, you will always be a warrior, “On Sunday, he shared the news via his Twitter account, @iampinglacson.

“I am accustomed to initiating crusades, even if they are initially difficult and lonely. The public would eventually understand my point and rally to my cause. This has been demonstrated each time my name has been placed on the ballot, and the voters have consistently renewed my mandate to serve them “he continued.

Lacson, who served as chief of the Philippine National Police from 1999 to 2001, was well-known for his opposition to kotong (bribes) and for ensuring that all cops followed his directives.

In the Senate, he returns his share of the Priority Development Assistance Fund, or pork barrel, to the national treasury, which he sought to abolish as a source of corruption.

Lacson resigned from the Partido Reporma on Thursday after some of the party’s officials decided to endorse another candidate.

The following day, he claimed that Reporma dropped him due to campaign expenses totaling PHP800 million, which he was unable to provide.

“Based on 2019 estimates, PHP800 million can construct 1,066 detached housing units with a floor area of 24 square meters on a 40 square meter (square meter) lot,” Lacson tweeted.

On Saturday, leaders and members of the Partido Reporma in the province of Bohol also tendered their irreversible resignations from the party in support of Lacson.

In Bohol, the “Lacson-Sotto Support Group” pledged their “unwavering commitment and support” to Lacson and his running mate, Senate President Vicente Sotto III.

Among them are Mayor Joseph Raola of Jagna and former Provincial Police Chief Edgardo Ingking; Joseph Sevilla (first district coordinator); Eduardo Aranay (second district coordinator); and Emmanuel Solomon Duites (third district coordinator) (third district coordinator).

“We believe that we require a leader like him who has a clear vision for our country and people and a clear plan for achieving that vision based on science and hard data “read the group’s statement.

Previously, members of the Reporma-Cavite chapter left the party in support of Lacson.

Senatorial wagers by political parties Minguita Padilla, Guillermo Eleazar, and Renato de Villa, founder and chairman emeritus of Reporma, have also remained loyal to Lacson.

Lacson stated that de Villa, a former Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Executive Secretary, and Defense Secretary, has always served as an inspiration for him in public service, being “consistently honest and incorruptible.”
