MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s continued strong trust ratings, according to presidential aspirant Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., are proof that he is a true leader and public servant of the Filipino people.

Marcos said Filipinos will always be appreciative of what Duterte has done for the country on the sidelines of SMNI’s presidential interview.

When asked for a birthday message for Duterte, he stated, “We wish him a very happy birthday and we will always be grateful for all that he has done for our nation, and I think it is reflected in how Filipinos now react to him.”

Duterte is celebrating his 77th birthday with his family in Davao City, where he served for nearly two decades as mayor, vice-mayor, and congressman before being elected as the country’s 16th President in 2016.

“He has been a great leader and a true servant of the people,” Marcos remarked, “which is why people trust him and continue to believe in him.”

Marcos stated that maintaining the people’s trust is difficult, but that the president has done so.

He also stated that Duterte taught him a lot.

Martin Andanar, the Presidential Communications Secretary and acting presidential spokesperson, acknowledged that Duterte met with Marcos lately and that the conversation was pleasant and fruitful.

Duterte gave him guidance and shared his experiences and thoughts, as well as the present government’s main accomplishments.

Duterte’s political party, the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), had previously endorsed Marcos’ and his running mate Sara Duterte’s candidacy.

Duterte’s desire for the year, according to Malacanang, is for “a clean, fair, and honest election in May 2022, as he has repeatedly emphasized the need for a peaceful transfer of power as part of his enduring legacy.”
