Beneficiaries of the ‘Balik Probinsya’ program are sent home to Samar.

MANILA, Philippines β€” The national government’s Balik Probinsya, Bagong Pag-asa (BP2) Program is sending 16 more beneficiaries to Northern Samar.

The recipients, who came from four different families, arrived at the BP2 depot in Agham Road, Quezon City, early Monday for the dispatch procedure.

Emma Morillo Sorio, 40, is looking forward to returning to Catarman in Northern Samar with her spouse Harold Herreras, 46, and their four children, hoping for a better life as soon as they return to their home province.

“Maraming natutulungan ako sa Balik Probinsya,” says Masaya. Yung mga wala ng pag asa na tinutulungan nila. Masaya ako na merong ganitong programa, makakauwi kami ng sabay sabay (I am pleased that Balik Probinsya is able to assist a large number of people.) They are assisting folks who are beginning to lose hope. I’m glad that this program allows us to all return to the province together),” Sorio stated.

On Tuesday, the latest group of BP2 recipients is set to leave Manila for Northern Samar.

The beneficiaries must appear at the BP2 depot one day prior to their departure date to complete the Covid-19 swab test as part of the dispatch procedures.

They will be verified and evaluated by the National Housing Authority and the Department of Social Welfare and Development on the aid that may be granted to them if they have a negative swab test result.

They’ll also be subjected to a medical examination by the Department of Health (DOH).

Free drugs and vitamins are among the medical treatments provided by the DOH, according to DOH Undersecretary Charade Mercado-Grande.

Beneficiaries can also get wheelchairs, canes, crutches, and walkers if they require them.

Through the BP2 program, the Department of Health has provided medical assistance to 557 people who recently returned to Leyte, Davao del Norte, Isabela, Camarines Sur, Apayao, Agusan del Sur, Dinagat Islands, Cebu, Bohol Negros Oriental, La Union, Ilocos Sur, Iloilo, and Zamboanga del Norte.

President Rodrigo Duterte signed Executive Order (EO) No. 114 in May 2020, formalizing the “Balik Probinsya, Bagong Pag-Asa” program, which aims to alleviate overpopulation in Metro Manila’s metropolitan regions while also assisting informal settlers in returning to their home provinces for a fresh start.
