ANKARA, Turkey — On Tuesday, global markets rose on the strength of lower oil prices and hopes for progress in Russia-Ukraine peace negotiations.

During the day, Asian equities rose as futures in the United States and Europe rose broadly.

Delegations from Russia and Ukraine are meeting in Istanbul for a new round of peace negotiations to resolve the month-long conflict.

During the discussions, Ukraine would demand a cease-fire and a long-term agreement, according to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba.

Crude oil prices fell more than 9% on Monday, as supply concerns about continuing and future Russian oil disruptions were outweighed by demand concerns following the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) lockdown in Shanghai.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has given the government, central bank, and state-owned energy company Gazprom until March 31 to change the payment currency for gas shipments to “unfriendly countries” to rubles.

Russia’s demand was rejected by the Group of 7, the world’s leading economic nations.

Investors will be watching German consumer mood expectations for April, US JOLTS job openings for February and US consumer confidence for February on Tuesday.
