MANILA, Philippines — According to the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), no essential lifelines or facilities have been disrupted as a result of the Taal Volcano’s continued unrest.

“In terms of power, communication, and water, there are no interruptions,” OCD Assistant Secretary Bernardo Rafaelito Alejandro IV informed President Rodrigo Duterte during the Talk to the People briefing on Tuesday night.

Alejandro, who is also the Civil Defense deputy administrator, estimates that 1,539 households have been affected, totaling 5,688 people, with 4,974 of them receiving assistance in 17 evacuation facilities.

According to Alejandro, the five high-risk barangays in Batangas are Banyaga and Bilibinwang in Agoncillo town, as well as Boso-Boso, Bugaan East, and Gulod in Laurel town, according to data from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

He also mentioned that the Batangas Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) oversaw the preemptive evacuations, distributed 301 family food packs in Agoncillo, Sta. Maria, and San Gabriel, as well as 348 relief goods in Laurel, provided hot meals in Agoncillo and San Gabriel and provided transportation assistance for evacuation and response operations.

The RDRRMC of Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon) has issued directives and held meetings with affected LGUs, inspected high-risk barangays, and emergency operations centers, and coordinated the setting up of checkpoints to prevent the return or entry of evacuated residents, according to Alejandro.

He said that OCD 4-A (Calabarzon) had prepared non-food products such as 6,827 hygiene kits and 77,840 N-95 face masks.

According to Alejandro, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) has issued three public alert warning messages about the volcano’s instability.

On March 26, OCD 4-A received a memorandum ordering the evacuation of villages, the prepositioning of teams and resources, and the preparation of RDRRMC 4-A for the implementation of the Taal Volcano Eruption Harmonized Action Plan.

Various national DRRMC member agencies, including Phivolcs and the Department of the Interior and Local Government, are closely monitoring the situation in Taal Volcano, according to Alejandro. The Department of Social Welfare and Development is also keeping an eye on relief supplies, while other member agencies make necessary preparations.

“Overall, the reaction remains at the local government level, with support from our regional agencies or ating regional DRRMC 4A, with no necessity (and no need) from national authorities. However, if the situation worsens, all NDRRMC member agencies would be ready to respond “Alejandro remarked.
