Residents of Taal devastated by the typhoon are being offered temporary jobs by the Department of Labor and Employment.

MANILA, Philippines β€” The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is preparing funds of up to PHP100 million to help those affected by the eruption of the Taal Volcano.

“We are prepared just in case the eruption of Taal affects more people.” “We’re preparing,” Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III told President Rodrigo Roa Duterte during the Talk to the People briefing on Tuesday night. “I’ve instructed our finance officer to make ready and available PHP50-PHP100 million in case it’s needed.”

Residents in the municipalities of Agoncillo, Laurel, San Luis, Taal, Calaca, Calatagan, and Lemery in Batangas will receive assistance, according to Bello.

Residents who are affected will be employed for ten days and given a stipend based on the region’s minimum salary.

“The minimum wage in Region 4 is 400 pesos per day, so they’ll labor for ten days and we’ll pay them PHP4,000. That is something we can provide right away “Added he.

Bello added that they will also help affected people with their livelihoods.

The overall number of households affected by Taal’s unrest is estimated to be 1,823 or 6,568 people, according to the latest data from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.

Approximately 1,166 families, or 4,039 people, are now residing in 19 evacuation shelters, while 484 families, or 1,886 people, are residing outside of evacuation centers.
