Anti-insurgency operations by the government are a “work in progress,” according to PRRD.

MANILA, Philippines β€” Despite praising the government’s anti-insurgency measures, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte said on Thursday that the fight against communist-terrorist groups in the Philippines is still a “work in progress.”

He praised the NTF- and RTF-ELCAC for collectively realizing the government’s “holistic and whole-of-the-nation approach” to resolving communist insurgency during a joint meeting of the National Task Force and Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-RTF-ELCAC) in Region 7 (Central Visayas) in Lapu-Lapu City.

“Your sincere efforts to provide basic services in conflict-affected areas have actually contributed to bringing the government closer to the Filipino people,” he remarked.

He, on the other hand, believes the government’s initiative should not end here.

“In the final three months of this administration, it is vital that we fulfill our obligations to achieve peace for the country,” he added.

Local chief executives in Central Visayas were urged by Duterte to join forces with the NTF RTF-ELCAC in the fight against lawlessness and insurgency, as well as to support the administration’s important plans for long-term security.

“We promise you of the administration’s unwavering support in your separate initiatives in securing permanent peace,” he stated to the government’s national and local allies in this quest.

Meanwhile, he acknowledged the repercussions of the military’s prolonged armed clashes with the communist rebels.

“The whole point is to deconstruct.” Killing is, of course, an unavoidable aspect of resisting communism. “Don’t be surprised if someone dies there,” he warned, adding, “Huwag na kayo magtaka na may mamatay diyan.”

Duterte expressed his desire for the NTF-ELCAC to be supported by the next administration.

“I trust that our efforts to prevent local government armed conflict in our regions will never be in vain beyond my presidency.” The Filipino people deserve a calm and prosperous country, and the government should deliver on that promise. Let us all work together to achieve this,” he concluded.

He also maintained his earlier statement that the Communist Party of the Philippines has established an alliance with at least five party-list groups (CPP).

Duterte’s remark against the five party-list groups, according to Malacanang, was based on a report from the intelligence community.

Duterte oversaw the ceremonial distribution of cash grants under the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) and the awarding of Barangay Development Program (BDP) scholarships to beneficiaries from Cebu, Negros Oriental, and Bohol during the ceremony in Lapu-Lapu City.

Various government departments also presented their findings, testimonial videos, and other programs and projects aimed at assisting the rebel returns.
