MANILA, Philippines — The weather agency warned Friday that an intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) is not yet touching the country, but it might bring rainfall during the weekend.

“At this time, it has no influence,” said weather scientist Benison Estareja of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA). “However, we expect it to deliver rainfall across a large section of Mindanao and the Visayas during the weekend.”

He went on to say that a low-pressure region (LPA) could form along the ITCZ.

For the month of April, PAGASA predicts zero to one tropical cyclone.

Due to easterlies, Caraga will get sporadic rain showers and thunderstorms on Friday, while the northeasterly surface wind flow hitting extreme northern Luzon will bring light rainfall to Batanes and the Babuyan Islands.

At noon, the rest of Luzon will be hot, with Metro Manila’s temperature reaching 35 to 36 degrees Celsius. The temperature in Tuguegarao can reach 35 degrees Celsius, while the Kalayaan Islands can reach 33 degrees Celsius.

Localized thunderstorms are likely, according to Estareja.

The rest of the country will see sunny skies and pleasant temperatures at noon.

The temperature in Davao can reach 34 degrees Celsius; in Zamboanga, it can reach 33 degrees Celsius; and in Iloilo, Cebu, and Tacloban, it can reach 32 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, throughout northern Luzon, moderate to high winds and moderate to severe waves will continue to prevail.

Winds will be light to moderate elsewhere, with modest to moderate seas.
