The public hearings on the wage rise petition in Central Luzon begin on April 20.

PAMPANGA’S CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The Central Luzon Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) will begin a series of public hearings on the Solidarity of Unions in the Philippines for Empowerment and Reforms’ wage rise petition (SUPER).

Geraldine Panlilio, regional director of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and chairperson of the RTWPB, stated Monday that employees, employers, and other interested parties from the region are welcome to attend the hearing and express their views on the wage hike.

On April 20, the first hearing will be conducted at the Orchid Gardens Hotel on Lazatin Boulevard.

Other public hearings are set for April 22 in Bulacan, April 26 in Bataan, April 27 in Zambales, May 5 in Aurora, May 11 in Tarlac, and May 12 in Nueva Ecija (May 12).

A public hearing is required for any petition to adjust the minimum wage, according to the laws of minimum wage fixing.

The RTWPB will decide how much and in what form the salary raise will be after the hearing.

On February 22, SUPER filed a petition for a PHP750 increase in the daily compensation of minimum wage laborers in the private sector in Central Luzon.

The petition underlined the need to assist workers in coping with growing living costs, as well as workers’ need to recuperate their lost purchasing power as a result of rising oil and other basic commodity prices.

In January 2020, the region’s last wage order was issued, providing an additional PHP20 per day for minimum wage earners and PHP500 per month for domestic or home workers.

Non-agriculture minimum wage laborers in Central Luzon, as well as establishments with total assets of PHP30 million or more, currently earn PHP420 per day in basic pay.

Employees in the non-agriculture category and enterprises with assets of less than PHP30 million, on the other hand, receive a daily basic salary of PHP413 per day.

Minimum wage laborers in the provinces of Pampanga, Tarlac, Bulacan, Zambales, Bataan, and Nueva Ecija are entitled to the current basic daily pay.

The daily minimum wage in Aurora province is PHP369.

Plantation and non-plantation workers in Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac, and Zambales earn PHP390 and PHP374, respectively, in the agriculture category.

In Aurora, workers in the plantation and non-plantation sectors have PHP354 and PHP342, respectively.

The minimum wage in the retail or service sector with 16 or more employees is PHP409, PHP395 for companies with less than 16 employees in the six provinces, and PHP304 in Aurora.
