‘I will vote for my daughter,’ Duterte said of Sara’s VP run.

MANILA, Philippines β€” President Rodrigo R. Duterte said on Monday that when he casts his vote on May 9, he will shade the circle next to the name of his daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte.

“I am not endorsing any candidate other than my daughter.” In a speech in Mataas na kahoy, Batangas, Duterte said, “Ako, boboto talaga ako sa anak ko (Me, I’m really going to vote for my daughter).”

Although Duterte has consistently stated that only his daughter could carry on his legacy, this is the first time he has stated unequivocally that he will vote for Sara as vice president.

On March 31, during a campaign rally for the ruling political party, the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino – Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), Duterte praised his daughter’s abilities, calling her “extremely good and hardworking.”

Sara would be a good fit for the vice presidency, according to Duterte, because of her qualities and leadership style.

“However, Inday is really rigorous. You won’t be able to swarm around her waiting for her; instead, you’ll be called one by one. She will, however, speak with you. And that’s great; in fact, that’s fantastic. He stated, “She can serve people in an orderly manner.”

Sara’s intention to run for vice president under the Lakas – Christian Muslim Democrats – drew Duterte’s ire last year (Lakas-CMD).

He even denied a probable coalition between the PDP-Laban, PDP-Laban allied party, Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan and Lakas (PDDS), and Lakas-CMD in November 2021 because he believes presidential candidate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is a “weak leader.”

Sara’s running mate is Marcos, who is a member of the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas political party.

Sara’s decision to run for vice president, according to Duterte, was probably “determined for her” by Marcos.

Last month, Marcos’ presidential candidacy was officially sponsored by the PDP-Laban wing, which is led by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi.

Duterte and Marcos had a “cordial and constructive” meeting, according to Malacanang, in which the former reviewed “the current government’s significant successes and delivered pieces of advice to Mr. Marcos.”

The meeting, according to Senator Christopher “Bong” Go, was one of the elements that drove the PDP-Laban Cusi faction to endorse Marcos’ presidential run.

Despite this, Duterte has stated that he will remain “neutral” despite his political party’s endorsement.
